An RSS feed (or news feed) is a means by which you can stay informed about what's going on at BHS Hanover without having to regularly visit the website.
To make use of an RSS feed, you need some "feed reader" (or "aggregator") software. Most modern web browsers have feed readers built in.
After you attend a few of our rehearsals, we will usually invite you to become an official member of our chapter and chorus. Some people may wonder what that means or why it is necessary, so we hope this answers some of those questions.
What does it mean to become a member?
We are the Hanover, New Hampshire chapter or the Barbershop Harmony Society, an organization representing barbershop singers across the United States and Canada and, through global alliances, barbershop singers around the world. BHS maintains partnership with numerous other choral organizations globally, as well. Joining with us and with BHS means joining something much larger and richer.
Am I required to become a member?
We compete with other chorus ensembles and quartets within our district, the Northeastern District, covering eastern New York, New England, and the eastern provinces of Canada. In order to compete, you must be a member of BHS. Those who excel in competition have the opportunity to compete against other BHS members and international competitors. Singing is our focus and we like to have fun, but competition helps us sharpen our instrument (our voices) so that when we perform, we can put forth a musical product that we are proud of, while entertaining the communities where we live and sing.
Do I need to pay money?
Running a music organization is not a no-cost endeavor. We pay to rent our rehearsal space, to compensate our musical director for his work, and for performance rights to the songs we sing, along with sheet music and many of our learning tracks. We also have other expenses, such as for this website and for other technology that supports our rehearsals. However, we do not charge members anything for our local operations. We only ask that you join BHS and the Northeastern District as a member, and when you can, donate a dollar or two during rehearsals to help fund some of our social events.
Where does my money go if not to the chapter?
As a chapter of the organization, BHS provides us with:
Member Center: Access to your member account, search access to other quartets or choruses, a calendar BHS chapter shows & division events.
We understand that some members may find joining financially difficult. Please talk to us if that is the case. We really want to continue to build a strong chapter contributing our voices to arts in the Upper Valley, and your voice is welcome here.
If you enjoy what we do, we hope you'll want to become a member, too! Talk to any of our officers for more information, or write to our Secretary, Barry Walker:
